Resin bound gravel explained
If you’re searching for resin bound gravel, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common terms people use when looking for a modern resin surface — especially for driveways, patios, and paths.
To clear things up straight away:
Resin bound gravel is not loose gravel.
It’s simply another way of describing a resin bound surface, where natural stone (often called gravel) is mixed with resin and laid as one solid, smooth finish.
In most cases, people searching for resin bound gravel are actually looking for a resin bound driveway or patio — they just don’t know the correct term yet.

Resin Driveway did an excellent job on our side passage and the garden pathways. We used to get puddles everywhere and it was a nightmare to manage. They also got it finished just before my mother’s birthday, exactly as promised. We didn’t want the place being worked on while the family and the kids were coming over to celebrate. Everyone loves the new garden look and the resin looks great. When we’re ready, we’ll be getting our driveway done too. This is the same system used for resin bound driveways, patios, and pathways.
This is where most confusion comes from.
If you’re looking for a clean, modern surface without the downsides of loose gravel, resin bound is the solution.
Resin bound gravel is suitable for:
It’s especially popular where homeowners want a natural stone look without the mess and maintenance of loose gravel.
The Resin Driveway Experience
Yes — as long as it’s resin bound. Resin bound systems are designed to handle:
This is why we only install resin bound systems and do not offer resin bonded or loose gravel solutions for driveways.
If your existing base is tarmac or concrete and in good condition, resin bound gravel can be laid directly on top.
If you have block paving, gravel or an unstable base, we’ll take it up and lay a new porous tarmac or concrete base. The price depends on access, levels and drainage. A new tarmac base needs roughly a week to cure, and concrete about four weeks, before we can lay the resin.
Resin Driveway Ireland
We keep the process simple: photos first, a free site visit if it suits, a clear written quote, then the work is booked in. No deposits, no pressure.
You can walk on the surface after 24 hours and drive on it after 48 hours.
We offer 30+ resin bound stone colours, ranging from modern greys to warm natural tones. During the site visit, we bring physical samples so you can see how the gravel looks in natural light and alongside your home.
We can also show you nearby completed projects so you can see how different stone blends look after a few years of use.
Many people contact us asking for “resin bound gravel” without knowing the difference between systems. That’s completely normal.
Our job is to explain your options clearly, make sure resin bound is suitable, give honest advice, and let you decide in your own time.
There’s no deposit and no pressure to proceed.

Resin bound gravel is simply another way people describe a resin bound surface. The “gravel” refers to the natural stone used, but the finished surface is solid, smooth, and fully bound — not loose gravel.
No. Loose gravel sits on the surface and moves underfoot or under cars. Resin bound gravel is mixed with resin before installation, creating a stable, seamless surface with no loose stones.
Yes. Resin bound systems are designed for driveways and daily vehicle use when installed on the correct base. This is why resin bound is used for driveways, patios, and paths — unlike decorative gravel finishes.
Not directly. Loose gravel must be excavated and replaced with a solid tarmac or concrete base before resin bound can be installed. We assess this during the site visit and explain what’s needed.
The names sound similar, but they’re very different systems. Resin bonded involves scattering loose stone onto resin and is not suitable for driveways. Resin bound mixes stone and resin together, creating the solid surface most homeowners want.
